An Accra Circuit Court has handed a 15 year jail term each to two young Men for robbery and conspiracy.
The Convicts are Prince Adom, a welder and Yaw Fosu, a mechanic, alias Atongo. Whilst on a motorbike, the Convicts attacked one Beatrice Amonsima (Complainant) at knife point and robbed her of a Samsung J5 mobile phone worth 700 Ghana Cedis, a Nokia Lumbia mobile phone valued at 300 Cedis and a handbag containing some documents. The robbery attack happened at Musuku, a suburb of Accra at about 2:00pm.
In their preliminary statements, the Convicts readily pleaded guilty to the charges of robbery and conspiracy and requested the Court to deal with them leniently. ‘My Lord, it is true that we collected the handbag and the mobile phones from the Complainant and we sold the phones but we have bought new phones and we are ready to give them back to the Complainant’, the Convicts informed the Judge.
Having taken into consideration the Accused persons plea for mitigation and the fact that some of the items stolen by the Accused persons had been retrieved by the Police as well as the five days that they had been in custody, the Court sentenced each of the Accused persons to 15 years in prison on each counts of robbery and conspiracy. Their sentences will run concurrently. The case was presided over by His Honour Aboagye Tandoh whilst a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), Patience Mario prosecuted the case.

The Complainant’s handbag was retrieved from them and the following items were found in the handbag: one Nokia Lumia mobile phone and ladies’ bag containing some documents. A Samsung Galaxy J5 mobile phone valued at 700 Ghana Cedis which was said to be part of the stolen items was not found on the Accused persons.
