Man arrested for defiling 13 year old girl

The Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit (DOVVSU) of the Ghana Police Service in Nima has arrested a man suspected of defiling a 13 year old girl.

The suspect has since been arraigned before an Accra Circuit Court presided over by Her Honour, Abena Oppong Adjin-Doku. The Prosecuting Officer, Mavis Fosu, informed the court that the complainant, Martha Serwor, is a seamstress and the mother of the victim, Tracy Mensah, aged 13 years; both live at Pig Farm in Accra. The Accused, Kumah Kabri is a trader and lives at Fadama, Accra.

The Prosecutor further indicated that on 17th April, 2018, at about 6:30pm, the victim was sent by the complainant to buy her cooked rice from a place close to where the Accused sold fried rice. On the victim reaching where the Accused was, the Accused sent the victim to buy him a mobile phone credit card. On her return, she met one Joe Money, now at large, who told the victim that the Accused was in his room. Immediately the victim knocked on the door, Joe Money pulled her into the room, came out and locked her up. Joe Money and one other at large returned to the room and had sexual intercourse with her. The victim was released to go home at about 3:00am and she narrated her ordeal to her mother who made a report at the Nima DOVVSU.

A police medical report form was issued after which the victim was taken to the hospital for examination and treatment. The Accused was subsequently arrested and in his Caution Statement to the Police, he admitted the offence of defilement and mentioned those at large as his accomplices. The Accused was denied bail and remanded into Police Custody to reappear on the 9th of May, 2018.
