A 20-year old unemployed mother of two known as Nana Adjoa has been arraigned before an Accra Circuit court, after she sent text messages to her boyfriend’s mother, wishing her death and calling her a witch.

The Accused has been charged with domestic violence, to wit, emotional abuse, and domestic violence to, wit psychological abuse.

The facts of the case as read by the Prosecutor, ASP Agnes Boafo are that, the Accused person, Nana Adjoa lives at Teshie, while the Complainant, Janet Afoh, who happens to be the mother of the Accused’s boyfriend, lives at Tema, Community 18.

According to the Prosecutor, the Complainant and the Accused have not been on good terms.

She added that on 16th April, 2018, the Accused sent abusive text messages to the Complainant saying, “if you are truly sick then die” and “You are a witch of Medusa, that is why you killed your husband.

ASP Boafo said that the Complainant reported the issue to the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU), Nungua and the Accused was subsequently asked to visit the police station for investigations to be carried out because she was a nursing mother and there was no facility to detain her.

The Accused refused to report to the Police station, and a bench warrant was issued for her arrest.

The Accused pleaded guilty on both counts and said that she sent the Complainant the text messages because the Complainant asked her son, the Accused’s boyfriend, not to take care of their children.

The Court presided over by Her Honour, Abena Oppong Adjin Doku convicted the Accused on her plea and sentenced her to sign a bond to be of good behaviour for 24 months and in default, six months imprisonment.

The judge cautioned the Accused that although she is a nursing mother, she would not be pardoned if she violates the bond.
