Teenager dragged to Court for defiling “alleged” girlfriend

A nineteen-year old student, Daniel Akomea Owusu has been arraigned before court for defiling a fourteen-year old girl, he claims to be his girlfriend.

The Accused person pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The facts of the case as presented by the Prosecution is that, the Complainant, Cynthia Ofosua is a petty trader and mother of the Victim and they live together at ‘Flat-Top’, Accra, while the Accused lives at Akweteyman.

On 5th September, 2018 at about 9:00am, the Victim left home for school and failed to return.

The Complainant began searching for the Victim, and on 10th September, 2018, made a report to the Tesano Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU).

The same day, a neighbour alerted the Complainant that she spotted the Accused with the Victim at Akweteyman.

Upon this information, the Complainant proceeded to Akweteyman and met the Accused with the Victim.

The Accused on seeing the Complainant, took to his heels, leaving the Victim.

The Victim confided in the Complainant and revealed to her that during the one week stay with the Accused, he had several sexual intercourse with her.

The Complainant together with the Victim proceeded to Tesano DOVVSU and made further report.

A police medical form was issued for the examination and treatment of the Victim.

The Accused person was subsequently arrested and he admitted the offence in his cautioned statement and further stated that the Victim is his girlfriend.

Further investigation disclosed that the Victim got pregnant during her relationship with the Accused person and the pregnancy was terminated in the month of July, 2018.

A medical officer, at whose facility the Victim was examined, confirmed that the termination of the pregnancy was incomplete.

The Court, presided over by Her Honour, Abena Oppong Adjin- Doku, admitted the Accused person to bail in the sum of GHC 20,000.00 with two sureties, after Counsel for the Accused prayed for bail.

The case has been adjourned to 24th October, 2018.
