The Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Ms. Otiko Afisa Djaba says the Ministry is working on a legal framework to establish the School Feeding Programme as an Authority.

She said this in Parliament when she was responding to a question asked by the Member of Parliament for Bole/Bamboi, Mr. Yusif Sulemana. The MP asked her what measures the Ministry was putting in place to sustain the School Feeding Programme.

The Minister revealed that the Bill will seek to establish an Authority to secure the gains and ensure reliable and consistent funds. She added that this is aimed at positioning the School Feeding Programme as a vehicle for reducing poverty and hunger.

She also indicated that in a bid to sustain the programme, the Ministry has facilitated the payment of GH¢210,803,509.92. She added that the Ministry has received from the Ministry of Finance an amount of GH¢100,000,000.00 Cedis, which will cover additional forty four days of the second term of the school year.

The Minister said funding is a major challenge of the programme. She intimated that the Ministry is collaborating with some private organisations and civil society organisations through a public-private partnership to support the programme.
