An Accra Circuit Court presided over by Her Honour, Abena Oppong Adu-Doku has remanded a 30 year old electrician, Emmanuel Ampah for defilement.

The Accused person pleaded ‘not guilty’ to the offence.

In reading the brief facts, the Prosecutor, ASP Agnes Boafo, narrated that the Complainant, Paul Yankey is a contractor and father of victim who is aged 14 years.

The Prosecutor stated that the Accused had been the family friend of the Complainant for three years. The Accused visited the family when they lived at Adenta and later when they moved to Ashalley Botwe.

According to the Prosecutor, the Accused would visit and stay with the family as long as he wanted. He would also be fed and given other necessary assistance when the need arose.

“The Complainant took the victim to the hospital for thorough medical checkup when he realised that for about eight months the victim could not walk properly and at a point in time the victim became paralyzed with swollen feet”, ASP Boafo said.

The Prosecutor stated that during examination the medical doctor found out that the victim had been defiled severally with the last defilement being just a week to the date of the checkup.

The Prosecutor explained that the victim confessed to the doctor that a certain male adult had been defiling her since 2015. She further stated when she tried to scream on the first occasion, the Accused warned her that he had planted ‘juju’ in her mother’s room, and that her mother and younger brother would die if she screamed.

ASP Agnes Boafo stated that the Accused confessed to the Complainant when questioned about the issue. The Accused person’s confession was recorded on the Complainant’s phone in which he said he only tried on two occasions to have sex with the victim and confessed to have fondled the victim.

The Prosecutor explained that the victim became afraid and kept quiet.  The accused was said to have defiled the victim any time he went to visit and the victim kept the ordeal to herself for fear of losing her mother and younger brother.

According to ASP Boafo, the matter was reported to the Police, the accused was arrested, and a police medical form was issued to the Complainant to take the victim to the hospital which he did and returned it duly endorsed.
