Major Mahama and army men allegedly protected illegal mining company

Counsel for the first, second, fourth, eighth, tenth and twelfth Accused persons in the Major Mahama trial, Mr. George Bernard Shaw, has revealed that the late Major Mahama and 30 other army men went to Diaso to protect C & G Mining Company, a company that had been banned by the Minerals Commission from mining in the Duabo forest.

According to Counsel, the Minerals Commission had written to C & G Mining Company on 30th January, 2017, before Major Mahama and 30 other army officers were sent to Diaso.

Counsel for the first, second, fourth, eighth, tenth and twelfth revealed this during cross- examination of the first Prosecution Witness, WO2 Sebi Kwesi.

In answering questions asked by Mr. Shaw, the first Prosecution Witness said that they had gone to Diaso to protect C & G Mining Company but he was not aware that the company had been banned.

 The court presided over by Her Lady, Mrs. Mariama Owusu also granted an application by Mr. Bernard Shaw to order the Disclosures Department of Vodafone Ghana Limited, to produce details of the telephone records of the first Accused (applicant), William Baah, the Assembly man for Denkyira Obuasi.

In other developments, the father of the late Major Maxwell Mahama has said that the one-year memorial service will be held at Burma Camp on 3rd June, 2018, and with the approval of government, a sod will be cut for the erection of a monument in remembrance of Major Mahama.

Major Maxwell Mahama was lynched to death by some community members at Denkyira Obuasi on 29th May, 2017.
