Accused persons did not kill Major Mahama – Lawyer alleges

Mr. Patrick Anim Addo, Counsel for the 13th and 14th Accused persons in the murder trial of Major Maxwell Mahama, has alleged that the Accused persons did not kill Major Maxwell Mahama, but rather died after one Maa Afua set fire on him.

This was during his cross examination of the 4th prosecution Witness, Mr. Kojo Afum.

Counsel for the 13th and 14th Accused persons, referred to a statement that Mr. Afum made at the police station at the time he was arrested, and put it to the Witness, that he stated that one Maa Afua set fire on Major Mahama, when she saw that he was weak. The Witness replied in the negative.

Mr. Anim Addo said that in reference to the alleged statement by the Witness, there was an implication that at the time Major Mahama was weak, he was not dead but Mr. Afum said that he could not tell.

Major Maxwell Mahama was lynched on Monday,29th May, 2018, after he was mistaken for an armed robber, by some inhabitants of Denkyira Obuasi.

There are 14 people standing trial.

So far the prosecution has presented four witnesses.

The case has been adjourned to Monday, 17th December, 2018
