Eight alleged murderers of Captain Mahama discharged.

An Accra District Court presided over by His Worship Worlanyo Kotoku, has discharged eight accused persons in connection with the death of Captain Maxwell Mahama.

According to the Principal State Attorney, Evelyn Keelson, a Bill of Indictment and Summary of Evidence were filed on 15th December 2017, after the Attorney General had studied the docket and concluded that there was evidence to prosecute fourteen out of the twenty two Accused persons.

The State Attorney stated that there was not enough evidence to prosecute eight of the Accused person.

Madam Evelyn Keelson sought the consent of the court for eight of the Accused persons to be discharged, in accordance with Section 59 of the Criminal and Other Offences Act, 1960 (Act 30).

The discharged persons are Vivian Asahene, Solomon Sackey, Ebenezer Appiah, Kwame Agyei, Yaw Annor, Solomon Kwadwo Fordjour, Philip Badu and Anthony Amoah.

Counsel for the eight Accused persons expressed joy at their discharge and appealed to the court to ensure the provision of lawyers for the rest of the Accused persons before trial begins, since he was representing the Accused persons pro bono.

The case has been adjourned to 11th January, 2017, for committal.
