The headteacher of Kekeli Preparatory school in Aflao, Mr Innocent Agblevor has been arrested for registering some foreign students to write this year’s Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).
Sixty-two foreign students were stopped from writing the exams on Monday after it was detected that they were not Ghanaians.
The students who were mainly Nigerians and Togolese, were stopped after authorities within the Ketu South Municipality of the Volta Region found that a Ghanaian headteacher, Innocent Agblevor, had allegedly registered them for the exams.
This was revealed by the Municipal Chief Executive for Ketu South, Mr Elliot Edem Agbenorwu.
According to the MCE the foreign pupils attended a Togo-based Faith Mission school from JHS1 to JHS3 but they were registered as Ghanaian pupils without any cumulative records detailing their academic history.
The development according to the MCE, is a “sabotage of government policy” on free Senior High School education.
He said the foreign students were registered to enable them take advantage of Ghana’s Free SHS policy.
