A 35 year old man has attempted to commit suicide at the Chamber of Parliament immediately after the adjournment of proceedings.

The young man who was identified as Mr. Kojo Mensa, attempted to jump from the public gallery at the Chamber to the floor of the House after he tied a bandage to a chair and to his neck.
In an attempt to jump from the public gallery at the Chamber, one of the security operatives of the Parliamentary Protection Unit (PPU) rushed and held Mr. Mensa (crime suspect).
In the process, other security operatives from PPU at the Chamber of Parliament joined in and handcuffed the crime suspect.
In the event, the crime suspect called on the security operatives of PPU to release him, to proceed in committing the suicide.
While the crime suspect was being taken away to the Parliament Police Post, he requested to see his Member of Parliament for Kwesimintim Constituency, Mr. Joseph Mensah.
Further follow up to the Police Post revealed that Mr. Mensa has been frequenting Parliament, and that he is familiar with most of the security operatives and some workers.
The Commander of the Parliament Police Post, Superintendent Freeman Tete, in an interview with ghanajustice.com, stated that Mr. Mensa was suffering from a shoulder dislocation, and that the bandage was meant to provide support for his shoulder.
Mr. Tete added that the suspect in his statement to the police, indicated that his mother is sick, and that he is nursing a dislocated shoulder.
Mr. Tete however, did not state the rationale behind the suspect’s attempted suicide at the Chamber  gallery of Parliament.
Meanwhile, the suspect has been transferred to the Ministries Police Station for further interrogation.
