Court remands Three Men for robbery

An Accra Circuit Court has remanded Three Men for conspiracy and robbery.

The Accused persons are Tahiru Suleman, Randy Arthur and Adamu Fuseini. They allegedly robbed one Michael Yaw Sarfo (Complainant) of his Nissan Almera taxi, a mobile phone and an amount of 865 Cedis.

They pleaded not guilty to the charges. The Presiding Judge, His Honour Aboagye Tandoh remanded them in Police Custody to reappear in court on September 12, 2017.

Earlier, the Prosecutor, Superintendent Kwaku Bempah, briefed the Court that the Complainant is a driver while the Tahiru Suleman (A1) and Randy Arthur (2) are shoemakers. He added that Adamu Fuseini is a motorbike mechanic.

The Police Officer also said that on the 23rd of August, 2017, at about 12:00 am, the Complainant was in-charge of Nissan Almera taxi, when a young man hired his services from Alajo to Abelemkpe, all suburbs of Accra. He added that the Complainant obliged and charged him 7 Cedis for the trip.

Superintendent Bempah also said that as the Complainant was about to take off, the young man pulled a knife and threatened to stab him if he opposed his demands. He added that suddenly, about six other accomplices emerged and started beating the Complainant up. Subsequently, one of them stabbed him in the right hand with a knife.

The Prosecutor further stated that the Accused persons together with their accomplices succeeded in robbing the Complainant of his mobile phone and cash in the sum of 865 Cedis, and bolted with the said taxi.

The Police Officer also said that on the same day, at about 4:50 pm, the stolen taxi which had a tracking device was traced to the residence of A3, near Ablekuma, a suburb of Accra, and same was retrieved by the Police and taken to the Anyaa Police Station with both vehicle number plates removed by the Accused persons.

He also told the Court that later, the youth of Anyaa, also a suburb of Accra, upon a tip off, arrested A3, who also led the youth to arrest A1 and A2 and handed them over to the Police.
