Drivers sentenced to 15 years imprisonment with hard labour.

An Accra Circuit Court presided over by His Honour Justice Aboagye Tandoh has sentenced one Joseph Allotey, to 15 years imprisonment with hard labour for robbery.
According to the Prosecutor, Superintendent Kwaku Bempah, the Complainant, Amina Mohammed is a trader residing at Darkuman, and the Accused person Joseph Allotey is a driver with M-P Infrastructure Limited at East Legon.
He narrated that on 23rd July, 2015, the Complainant went to the Lapaz branch of Guaranty Trust Bank and withdrew GH¢700.00 from the ATM machine.
He explained that after taking the money, the Complainant was waiting for a taxi by the road side to go home. The Accused drove to her, parked by her side and inquired from her if she needed a ride which the Complainant answered in the affirmative. The Accused picked her in the car and she told him she would disembark at Darkuman junction.
“The Accused person drove the Complainant to Darkuman and locked the central lock and drove her to Mallam near Hill Grace Preparatory School and pulled out a knife and subjected her to severe beatings”, the Prosecutor said.
Superintendent Bempah said that the Accused also forcibly had carnal knowledge of her. After the act, he robbed her of her Samsung Galaxy Note 4 mobile phone valued at GH¢2,900.00, an Infinix Hot note valued at GH¢680.00 and a gold chain valued at GH¢1,200.00 at knife point.
He further added that a complaint was lodged with the Police and the Accused was traced to his hideout at Nii Boi Town, a suburb of Accra where he was arrested.
The Prosecutor said when the Accused was arrested he was using the Infinix Hot Note he stole from the Complainant.
Superintendent Bempah added that the knife used by the Accused while committing the robbery was found in the car during a search of the car and same was identified by the Complainant.
According to the Prosecutor, in the Accused person’s Caution Statement, he admitted the offence whole-heartedly and added that he was pushed to commit the crime by the devil.
