Two men arrested for robbery

The Accra Circuit Court has remanded two men to police custody on two counts of robbery and conspiracy to commit robbery.

The Greater Accra Police Command, upon road checks within the Accra Psychiatric Hospital area arrested one Eric Bio and Felix Dogbe for possessing stolen items.

The Prosecutor, Chief Inspector Victor Dosoo at the Accra Circuit Court, presided over by His Honour, Mr. Aboagye Tandoh, in reading the brief facts stated that the Complainant is a dispatch rider who resides at Insakina in Accra.

He stated that on 26th April 2018 at about 8:10pm, the complainant, Godfred Kyere was going to the University of Professional Studies and alighted at Legon bus stop. He decide to take a walk to campus. He was suddenly approached by the two accused persons who were pillion riders on board a motorbike. They pulled a knife on the Complainant and ordered him to bring out all his money on him. They further subjected him to a thorough search and robbed him of his black school bag containing a bible, a spiritual novel, a driver’s license, a Techno mobile phone valued GH₵300.00 and a cash amount of GH25.00 and sped off.

About 11:00pm, the police snap check at Accra Psychiatric Hospital at Asylum Down intercepted and searched the two accused. The second accused, Felix Dogbe was searched and a machete was retrieved from him. The Complainant’s black school bag was also retrieved from him. The first accused was also found with a jack knife and two mobile phones, one of which was later identified as the Complainant’s phone. Police traced the Complainant who came to identify the accused persons. After investigation, they were charged with the offences.

The two Accused persons pleaded not guilty and their Counsel prayed for bail for them. Their Counsel further explained that the two accused are very responsible people and their bail application will not interfere with the trial process.

The court refused the bail application and remanded the accused persons into police custody. The case was adjourned to 21st May, 2018.
