Carpenter in court for assaulting 8 year old girl

Mr. Tetteh Sewu, a 28-year old carpenter, has been arraigned before an Accra Circuit Court for indecently assaulting an 8-year old girl.

The Accused pleaded ‘not guilty’ to the charge.

In reading the brief facts, ASP Agnes Boafo narrated that the Complainant Kwadwo Asiedu is a mason and resides at Abokobi with the victim, his daughter, an 8- year old K.G 2 pupil and the Accused resides in the same vicinity with the Complainant.

She added that during the month of April, 2018, the Complainant who is separated from his wife and had custody of the children, left the children behind to attend a funeral at Abokobi-Boi.

According to ASP Boafo, on the same day around 6pm, the children in quest for the Complainant, went to the Accused person’s house to ask of him.
While there, the Accused sent the Victim’s brother on an errand, took advantage of his absence, pulled the Victim’s pant aside and inserted his fingers into her vagina.

“In the course, the Accused person removed the Victim’s pant and removed his and laid on her, but he quickly got up when he saw the Victim’s brother coming”, the Prosecutor said.

She narrated that about three weeks ago, the Victim’s mother visited them and when she was bathing the Victim, she observed sores in her vagina.

According to the Prosecutor, when the Victim was questioned, she narrated her ordeal to her mother and later to the Complainant.

“On 28th June, 2018, a report was made to the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit, Adenta and a police medical form was issued to the Complainant to send the Victim to hospital for examination and treatment, of which he did”, she said.

ASP Agnes Boafo concluded that the Accused was later arrested and in his Caution Statement, admitted the offence.

The case has been adjourned to 18th July, 2018.
