An Accra Circuit Court presided over by His Honour, Mr. Aboagye Tandoh has sentenced one Stephen Osazee, to 21 years imprisonment with hard labour, for robbery.

The facts of the case are that the Complainant Salifu Diau Rahman is an accountant at Amanfrom Senior High School and resides at Red Top, a suburb of New Bortianor, where the Accused person also resides.

On 30th December, 2016, the Complainant and his brother went out with the Complainant’s unregistered Toyota Highlander with trade plate No. DV 1047-16.

In the absence of the Complainant, the Accused and two others scaled the fence well into the Complainant’s house.

At about 9:50pm that same day, the Complainant returned home in the said car. On their arrival, the Accused and the two others, attacked them with a locally manufactured pistol and pump action gun and ordered him to hand over the car key to them which he did.

They matched the Complainant and his brother from the compound into the main building and robbed him and his family of seven mobile phones and cash of GH₵430.00 and finally drove the said Toyota Highlander away.

The Complainant reported the case to the Police.

On 2nd January, 2017, the Accused and seven others were arrested upon a tip off.

On 3rd January, 2017, the Complainant saw the Accused person at the Police station and quickly pointed him out to the Police as one of the people who robbed him.

The Accused person denied committing the offence in his caution statement and was arraigned before court.

He pleaded ‘not guilty’ and underwent a full trial.
