Man jumps in front of Presidential convoy to kill himself

A man named Seth Nana Amowi, who tried to commit suicide by jumping in front of the presidential convoy, has been arraigned before Court.

The Prosecutor, DSP George Amegah, made an application to the Court for an order to send him for psychiatric examination and treatment.

The Prosecutor said that the Accused, during investigation, showed infirmity of the mind, hence the application.

The facts of the case are that on 7th August, 2018 at about 7:30 am, the Accused, with intention to commit suicide, hid himself at the Ako- Adjei Interchange.

At 9:30 am, when the Presidential convoy reached the Ako- Adjei Interchange, he jumped in front of the presidential convoy, hit the bonnet of one of the cars and laid on it, causing the convoy to stop abruptly.

It took the Police escort of the President to get the Accused off the bonnet and arrested.

According to the Accused’s statement to the Police, he wanted to commit suicide by throwing himself under the vehicle, because, he had tried to meet the President on several occasions to voice out his grievances but to no avail.

The plea of the Accused person was not taken.
