Members of Parliament from both sides of the House have indicated that they have commenced the process to summon the Sports Minister, to appear at the Plenary and respond to urgent questions.

The Ranking Member on the Parliamentary Select Committee on Youth, Sports and Culture, and the Member of Parliament for South Tongu, Mr. Wisdom Kobla Mensah Woyome, has pointed out that an urgent question has been filed by the Minority, to summon the Sports Minister before Parliament.

Speaking to some Members of the Parliamentary Press Corp, Mr. Woyome stated that there are a lot of questions requiring answers, hence the urgent question.

Mr. Woyome reiterated that the House wants to know the lessons learnt from the team’s abysmal performance at the AFCON.

However, the Chairman for the Committee on Youth, Sports and Culture and the Member of Parliament for Mpohor, Mr. Alex Kofi Agyekum, averred that the attempt by the Minoriy to summon the Minister to appear at the Plenary is not the best.

Mr. Agyekum further added that the Committee will rather invite the Youth and Sports Minister to brief only the Committee.

The Black Stars of Ghana were knocked out by the Tunisians at the round of 16 stages at the AFCON.

The National team and the Normalisation Committee have since, been hit by criticisms from some Ghanaians on their return to Ghana from Egypt.

The four-time winners of AFCON were kicked out in a 4-5 penalties defeat to Tunisia in the Round of 16 after playing out a 1-1 draw in 120 minutes.

It is the first time the team exited the tournament without reaching the semi-final stage since they were eliminated at the group stage in the 2006 tournament.
