An Accra Circuit Court has sentenced a 19 year old trader, Mubarak Adamu, to 3 years at a correctional centre for robbery.

The Court presided over by His Honour Mr. Aboagye Tandoh, ordered that the mother of the convict should provide GH₵100.00 every month for the upkeep of the Accused.

Background of the case

Complainant Yormewu Delali Philomena is a banker and a resident of Gbawe-Bulemi, whilst the Accused person Mubarak Adamu resides at Suhum in the Eastern Region but comes to Accra to hawk.

On 11th January, 2018, at about 9:00 pm, the Complainant was on her way home from work, and on reaching Gbawe-Bulemi last stop, she decided to take a short cut to her house. While on way, she realised she was being followed by the Accused but did not suspect any foul play so she continued her walk.

She later realised that the Accused person was doubling his steps so she paved way for him to pass.

The Accused person then pulled a dagger and pointed it at her and ordered her to hand over her hand bag to him.

The Complainant was frightened and handed over the bag to the Accused and he escaped with it. The Complainant then mustered courage and shouted “thief, thief” whilst chasing the Accused.

Her shout prompted people around and the Accused was pursued and arrested at a distance of about 500 metres from the crime scene together with the dagger and the handbag. He was subsequently handed over to the Police.
